Do you have problems with your Puppy mouthing?
Due to the high number of inquiries we received about this issue, we created a dedicated Consultation for Mouthing. While our Puppy School 8-week class covers the basics of puppy mouthing, some cases require more one-on-one support.
What is Mouthing and Why Do Puppies Mouth?
Puppies naturally use their mouths to explore the world, grab objects, and interact during play. Typically, their mother and littermates help teach boundaries, letting them know when mouthing escalates to biting and becomes painful.
Puppies may mouth for various reasons, including:
- Seeking attention, as mouthing often gets a reaction.
- Engaging in play, though they may unintentionally go too far.
Understanding these behaviors is key to guiding your puppy towards healthier interactions.
Why is it so important to address mouthing?
Mouthing puppies can cause bruising and it’s so important to address and manage this behaviour as soon as possible. Without the appropriate training to prevent mouthing, your puppy will grow into this habit and into an adult dog where this behaviour escalates.
When left unaddressed, mouthing leads to constant injuries, families are no longer able to allow visitors to their home especially visiting children. It becomes a massive issue which impacts different areas of a families lifestyle and homelife and it’s a key reason why so many seek to rehome their dogs.
If your puppy is mouthing and you need help with this, book our specialised session where our friendly, expert dog trainers will guide you on how to manage and prevent this behaviour.
